Flood Resilience
Community Flood Resilience: the big picture
We’re working with Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience team to deliver the Community Flood Resilience initiative.
It is part of the Making Space for Water programme, designed to:
- Reduce flood risks in known flood areas
- Enhance and maintain public stormwater systems
- Raise awareness of flood risk
- Prepare for future flood events

Our shared goals
We can’t eliminate all flooding, but by working together we can:
- Reduce flood risks and impacts, making our community safer and more resilient
- Encourage communities to take action to protect against future floods
Everyone plays a part in communities becoming more flood resilient. Together we can make a big difference.
How we’re helping
In collaboration with Auckland Council’s Community Flood Resilience initiative, we are:
- Connecting residents with neighbours to strengthen community resilience
- Empowering people to care for and improve local waterways
- Providing resources and knowledge to help reduce future flood risks
Ways you can get involved
You can make a difference by:
- Learning about the importance of riparian planting
- Taking hands-on action to maintain your local environment
- Making small changes at home to improve flood resilience

Small things done before heavy rain make the biggest difference.
